Vijayawada: One Mallela Durga Sravanthi (38) was allegedly murdered on late Thursday night near Rythupeta in Nandigama of NTR district. The accused Achchi Peddababu from the local BC Colony, who had fled from the spot after the incident, is still absconding.According to Nandigama sub-inspector Abhimanyu, Durga and her son Ashish had returned from Kodada in the evening. After dropping her at their rented house, Ashish went out. Shortly after, accused Peddababu, who was also a family friend, arrived at Durga’s doorsteps and started arguing with her over some issue.Sensing danger, Durga ringed Ashish and urged her to return home quickly. She told her son that Peddababu was causing trouble there. However, before Ashish could reach his mother, Peddababu dragged Durga outside the house and attacked her with a knife.Ashish tried to intervene as soon as her reached, but the accused threatened him and fled from the spot.

Woman held, stolen ornaments worth ₹7 lakh recovered

The accused allegedly stole the bag carrying the ornament from a woman passenger in a bus The Chillakallu police of NTR Commissionerate arrested a woman, identified as P. Visalakshi, on charges of stealing ornaments from a passenger in a bus and recovered gold and silver ornaments worth around ₹7 lakh from her possession. Police Commissioner S.V. Rajashekar Babu and DCP B. Lakshminarayana formed special teams to probe the case. The investigating officers examined the CCTV footage and arrested the woman a day after receiving the report, said Jaggaiahpet Circle Inspector P. Venkateswarlu.

Drug Inspectors seize drugs, materials worth ₹8 lakh in NTR dist.

Officials of the Drugs Control Administration in NTR district carried out inspections and special enforcement drives against unlicensed medical practice in Vijayawada and nearby areas on February 20 and 21, seizing drugs and related material worth ₹8 lakhs. As part of intensified action under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, Drug Inspectors K. V. Bhupesh, A. Krishna and others inspected M/s. Dicon Health Care in the city. During the inspection, they found that the licensee was allegedly altering the expiry dates of nine varieties of medicines using fabricated rubber stamps.

Man hacked to death in NTR district

A man was allegedly murdered by unidentified persons at Chintalapadu village in Chandarlapadu mandal of NTR District on Sunday (March 29, 2026). The deceased was identified as Venkatapathi. According to villagers, the miscreants attacked the victim with a sickle and slit his throat while he was alone at home. The Chandarlapadu police have registered a case and launched a search for the accused.
